Courage - The Joy of Living Dangerously

Courage: The Joy of Living Dangerously

Author: Osho

I just came across this book when a big storm smashed my life. When I was fully out of mind & heart my mom! Who supported & stand with me in my best & worst times of my life. She gave this book to me exactly when I had to make an important decision. It helped me to realize, that there is nothing to be afraid of and that it is very vital for us to go for the unknown. Unknown situations are opportunities for adventure. The book taught me that in order to make progress in life we have to move out of our “comfort – zone” with no fear. Thanks a ton Mom :)

“No, nothing is secure. That is my message. Nothing can be secure, because a secure life will be worse than death. Nothing is certain. Life is full of uncertainties, full of surprises – that is its beauty! You can never come to a moment when you can say, “Now I am certain.” When you say you are certain, you simply declare your death; you have committed suicide.” It is courage because when you function out of a conclusion the conclusion protects you. The conclusion gives you security, safety. To function without a conclusion is to function in innocence. There is no security, you may go wrong, you may go astray. One who is ready to go on the exploration called truth has to be ready to commit many errors, mistakes - has to be ready to risk. One may go astray but that is how one arrives. Magic had something of the mind and something of the no-mind. Then out of magic grew philosophy. Then out of philosophy grew science. Magic was both no-mind and mind. Philosophy was only mind. And then mind plus experimentation became science.

Thinking can think only about the known - it can chew the already chewed. Thinking can never be original. How can you think about the unknown? Whatsoever you can manage to think will belong to the known. You can think only because you know. At the most, thinking can create new combinations. You can think about a horse that flies in the sky, who is made of gold, but nothing is new. You know birds that fly in the sky, you know gold, you know horses, and you combine the three together. At the most thinking can create new combinations, but it can not know the unknown. The unknown remains beyond it. So thinking goes in a circle, goes on knowing the known again and again and again. It goes on chewing the chewed. Thinking is never original. To come upon reality originally, radically, to come upon reality without any mediator - to come upon reality as if you were the first person to exist - that is liberating. That very newness of it liberates.

I’ve read this book twice, and each time afterward felt the need to purchase 20 copies and give them to total strangers who don’t have courage to face life Osho's approach to religion/spirituality is simple, he uses common sense and fearless boldness to knock down our preconceived notions of our approach to life. This is an amazing, easy read, and should be required reading for all .

Cheers xalvis!

The God Of Small Things

  The God of Small Things
Author: Arundhati Roy

Arundhati Roy’s debut novel The God of Small Things rapidly became a world-renowned literary sensation after it was published in New Delhi in 1997. Immediately recognized as a passionate, sophisticated, and lushly descriptive work, it won Britain’s prestigious Booker Prize andbrings arundhati Roy in to international fame. The novel tells the story of the Kochammas, a wealthy Christian family in a small village in the southern Indian state of Kerala. Based loosely from the perspective of Rahel Kochamma, who has returned to her hometown to see her twin brother, it pieces together the story of the dramatic events of Rahel’s childhood that drastically  changed the lives of everyone in thefamily.

The God of Small Things is an ambitious work that addresses universal themes ranging from religion to biology. Roy stresses throughout the novel that great and small themes are interconnected, and that historical events and seemingly unrelated details have far-reaching consequences throughout a community and country. The novel is therefore able to comment simultaneously on universal, abstract themes, and a wide variety of ideas relating to the personal and family history of the members of the Kochamma family as well as the wider concerns of the Kerala region of India. Some of the novel’s most thoroughly developed themes are forbidden love, Indian history, and  politics. It is in love and politics that Roy’s carefully constructed, multifaceted narrative tends to dwell, and it is when love, politics, and history combine that Roy is able to communicate her most profound authorial insights.

 Sila Nerangalil Sila Manidhargal…
Author: Jayakanthan

Sila Nerangalil Sila Manidhargal…….An Tamil novel wrote by legendary Jayakanthan... Still I remember I read this book on my early teen ages some of ma family members commented me " indha  vayasulaiye  adults only book ah" but I didn't find any adults oriented coz I was living in the same society.. Where I saw lots of women’s like this heroine in my daily life.
I really impressed   by the work of Mr. Jk (Jayakanthan). The writer who have a guts to criticize our society’s flaws when most of writers ignored to mention the reality of this brown society Mr. jk's pens rounds around the very common women Ganga (a Brahmin girl) gets sexually mistreated by Prabhu (a wealthy man) on a rainy night. Enraged by this incident, Ganga is abused by her brother and forced to leave the family. Her maternal uncle rescues Ganga. Nevertheless, Ganga’s helplessness made her lusted uncle to take advantage of her. To defy and prove her uncle wrong, who says that she cannot marry and lead a normal life like any other women, Ganga decide to find Prabhu whom she had met only once on that rainy night many years back. Ganga’s solitude and Prabhu’s vulnerable married life & guiltiness made them become good friends and find solace in each other. This unusual or rather controversial friendship causes uproar in their families. The rest of the story reveals what befalls on Ganga and prabhu’s life with a twisting and stirring end.
Though the storyline seemed to be uncommon and controversial, especially in the conservative society like ours, the author has brilliantly presented the novel. The story explores the most intricate relationship between a lonely woman and a married man. Certain question has no answers. Ganga’s life is one such question. Sila Nerangalil Sila Manidhargal (Some people at some moments) is a very apt title for this work. You will find it out when you read it!
